The cottage is situated 5 minutes walk from the picturesque harbour in Mevagissey, with its interesting shops and restaurants, in an area designated to be of outstanding beauty. Polstreath beach is a 10 to 15 minute walk, along the coastal path. Cliff Street becomes pedestrian access only soon after the cottage but it's possible to drive down to unload a car before parking nearby, which means that there is no passing traffic and the only noise is that of the  seagulls.

The Accommodation

The downstairs accommodation comprises a kitchen, dining room, sitting room and lavatory. There is a double sofa bed in the sitting room, should it be required. Upstairs are two double bedrooms, a bathroom and a second lavatory.

The cottage is spacious, light and airy, yet parts of it date back to the 1700's. It is painted off-white throughout and has sanded, varnished wooden floors with rugs. All the rooms measure about 10' by 12' and the kitchen and dining room are linked by a large archway. The kitchen is equipped with a washing machine, electric cooker, kettle and toaster, fridge/freezer and microwave.
There are open fires in the dining and sitting rooms and electric night storage heaters throughout, with a fan heater and oil-filled radiator provided as back up. There's a television, DVD and video in the sitting room and a portable stereo/radio, which plays CD's and cassettes. An iron and ironing board and hair dryer are provided.

One bedroom has a king-sized bed and the second has two single beds. Both have canvas wardrobes, bedside tables and lamps. The furnishings throughout are to a high standard, combining modern and antique furniture.

The cottage has a small shared courtyard, which gets the sun for most of the day and there is patio furniture. Linen and towels are not normally provided. Electricity and coal are included and logs are readily available to purchase locally.

About The Area:

Mevagissey is the perfect place for your holiday if you are looking for a traditional Cornish fishing village, full of character with narrow streets and buildings steeped in history. The harbour built in the late 18th Century is still there for you to visit today. Once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishing industry, nowadays fishing boats (many of which are owned by local families and provide their income), are still an interesting sight both by day and their lights by night.  The name “Mevagissey” is believed to come from two saints, St Meva and St Issey and the village is thought to have begun in the fourteenth century.

There are many shops which will, most likely, fulfil all your shopping needs and there are large supermarkets in the town of St Austell, only 6 miles away. Mevagissey has many pubs & restaurants to choose from, most offering on their menu a local “catch of the day” from the sea.  There is a museum to visit plus an aquarium and also a fine model railway exhibition and art galleries. You can also visit The Old Pilchard Cellars.
Mevagissey boasts a mild climate throughout the year as it lies in the Gulf Stream (blown from the Caribbean ). The beautiful Mevagissey Bay is popular with locals and holidaymakers alike and much of the coastline around Mevagissey is cared for by the National Trust. The coastal footpath offers some lovely walks but is very steep in places. Cycles can be hired from nearby Pentewan village.
Every year, at the end of June, Mevagissey celebrates “Feast Week” which is based on religion and St Peter (the patron saint of fishermen). The events include street dances and music, a Grand Fete, a carnival procession and a fireworks display.   In July and August , there are self-drive motor boats for hire from the Aquarium slipway and many of the local fishing boats offer trips for sightseeing or sea-angling. At Christmas time, there is a spectacular Christmas Lights display and at New Year the local towns folk celebrate the occasion with fancy dress. Mevagissey Male Voice Choir is one of the largest and most successful in the County and gives approximately 25 concerts  each year raising money for local and national charities.
Mevagissey is a good base for visiting other parts of Cornwall. In the summer months there is a ferry to Fowey. The world renowned Eden Project and the historic port of Charlestown are just a short drive away and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are easily reached by car or bus but are also  within walking distance too. Many of Cornwall’s attractions are within travelling distance for a day out.
After either a busy day or a restful day out in Cornwall , the charming Mevagissey will look forward to your return and be waiting to welcome you.

  Directions:

By Car: From St.Austell, take the B 3273, signposted to Mevagissey. After Pentewan the road climbs and at the top of the hill is a cross roads, with the Lost Gardens of Heligan to the right, Mevagissey signposted straight on, Polstreath signed to the left, take the left turn and follow the road round, keeping left. You'll pass a school, stay left at the small roundabout and as the road starts to go down, past the Trevalsa Court Hotel, turn left into Cliff Street. There's a sign saying it's a cul-de-sac and not suitable for vehicles. You can either park near the garages or early in the day there's usually free parking further down, just a few doors from the cottage. Albatross Cottage is just past the turning to Battery Terrace.

By Public Transport:
Take the train or coach to St.Austell and catch a bus to Mevagissey. Get off the bus at the Trevalsa Court Hotel and walk down Cliff Street.

             From Newquay Airport:
By hire car or bus to St.Austell and then as above.
