About The Area:

St. Just-in-Penwith is the most westerly town in England and is set within an area of outstanding natural beauty having Cape Cornwall, the only Cape in England, right on its doorstep. A former mining town, it manages to keep its heart and soul beating even during the winter months, making this an ideal retreat all year round.

St. Just has various art galleries set both within the town and in the surrounding areas, as it can lay claim to quite an assortment of famous and talented artists living and working locally.

For the more energetic there is St. Just Sports Centre which is next to the local comprehensive school, and an 18 hole golf course over looking Cape Cornwall with leisure facilities and an indoor swimming pool open to the public.

Depending on what time of the year you choose to holiday, you are bound to find something to entertain you. During the three peak summer months of June, July and August a host of diverse activities are free to be enjoyed, including the Golowan Festival, hosted in nearby Penzance in June, and St. Just's very own Lafrowda Festival in July offering a week of festivities and climaxing in the final Saturday with a stunning colourful carnival with street stalls and music venues. In November, St. Just celebrates its own feast held on the first weekend after 31st October. Many local families celebrate this with an equal importance to Christmas Day, with many travelling great distances to be together over this weekend.

If there is one thing St. Just and the surrounding countryside is not short of, it is miles of footpaths and bridal ways. Take a stroll in any direction from the town centre and you are assured to find a valley, moorland or coastal scenery to captivate you. Leave the car parked up for a few days, you don’t want to miss out on the magic!

What more perfect way to spend your holiday than walking your dog on the beach? St. Just has many dog-friendly beaches near at hand, including nearby Cape Cornwall.

Whatever you are looking for to make your holiday perfect you are sure to find it out and about in West Cornwall. Lands End’s famous headland and breathtaking cliffs are only 3 miles from St. Just, and just before it are the beautiful golden sandy beaches of Sennen and Gwenver. Sennen has a surf school if lounging on the beach isn't quite energetic enough for you. Carry on from Land's End along the south coast and you will reach the fabulous sandy beach of Porthcurno, above which, built on the cliff, is the world famous open air Minack Theatre hosting a full programme of performances throughout the summer on both days and evenings. Following the coast again and past various glorious valleys and coves including Lamorna and Penberth, you reach the picturesque village of Mousehole. From here you can look across Mounts Bay to the unique St. Michael's Mount and the town of Penzance with nearby fishing village of Newlyn, where it is worth stopping off to stock up on freshly caught fish and crab.

Other places to visit are the Geevor Tin Mine Museum at Pendeen where you have the chance to go underground. Geevor is reached by taking the north coast road from St. Just towards St. Ives and the Tate Gallery. Venturing slightly further afield, but a good day out is The Eden Project at St. Austell.

If gardens are of interest the National Trust owns several attractions within a 30 mile radius of St. Just, plus a selection of privately owned gardens are open to the public.

This area is also famous for several ancient stone burial chambers, standing stones and stone circles, alongside early Celtic wishing wells all adding to the mystery and magic west Cornwall has to offer.

St. Just is ideally located for a day trip to the stunning Isles of Scilly by Skybus at Land's End Airport, only 5 minutes by car from St. Just.
